Tips On Using Pre Paid Phone Cards:
By Scott Pearse, Sat Dec 10th

Rule Number 1: Compare, compare, compare. There are numerousprepaid phone cards out there and yes, there are some majordifferences between the fees they charge. If you're seriousabout getting the most out of your hard earned dollar, take thetime to compare different cards.

Rule Number 2: Read the small print, always.

Be aware of why prepaid calling cards are so profitable for longdistance carriers: Let's say you purchase a prepaid calling cardfor $50 and this card has an extremely low per minute rate but a$2.25 connection fee for each call. You make your calls untilyou have $2.00 worth of minutes on the card. Guess what? Youcan't use the card anymore because the connection fee is $2.25.All you can do is throw the card away, and the company thatissued the card just made a free $2.

Protect your Personal Identification Number (PIN): This is yourpersonal number and should not be shared with anyone unless youhave given them permission to use your card. If you lose yourPIN, most companies will not replace it.

Know if there is a connection fee: This fee is billed for everycall that is connected. If answering machines, fax machines, voice mail, or pagers picks up, the call is considered to beconnected. Connection fees vary wildly between different callingcards. If you are planning on making only short calls, theconnection fee alone can "eat up" your cards minutes. Know theper minute rate: This is the rate that is billed for each minuteof the conversation that the caller engages in and is usuallyexpressed in cents per minute. Many prepaid phone cards willhave a cheap per minute rate, but then a very high connectionfee. Once again, if you make only short quick calls, check theper minute rate while knowing what your connection fee is. Evenif your per minute rate is only 1˘ but you have a $1.50connection fee, a 2 minute call will cost you

Review: This fone is purely for business purposes, there is nothing fancy or fun about it. Good for old ppl that dont understand modern technology, GLAD I DIDNT PAY FOR IT P

$1.52. (You justpaid 76˘ per minute for your call.)

Make sure you know if your card has an expiration date: Manyprepaid phone cards will expire on a certain date. This timespan is usually 3-6 months and is either from the date ofpurchase or the cards first use. If your card expires withminutes still remaining, all you can do is throw it out.

Know if your card is rechargeable: Some prepaid calling cardsmust be thrown away once the minutes are used or when the cardexpires, but others are rechargeable. If your card isrechargeable you will be able to add more minutes by contactingthe carrier.

Using a prepaid card to make your call from a cell phone: Readthe small print because in some cases a call from a cell phonewill use up more of your minutes.

Does your card have a maintenance fee?: This is a scheduled feethat might be applied weekly, monthly, and sometimes even daily(the fee is normally applied monthly). This fee is applied toany card that has been used at least once.

Check the pay phone fee: This fee is an FCC mandated fee that iscollected every time that a payphone is used. Every phone cardhas a pay phone fee but these fees vary between companies.

What is the billing increment?: This is how you are billed foryour call. For example, if the card has a three-minute billingincrement, a two-minute call will be billed as a three-minutecall. If a call is four minutes long it will be billed as asix-minute call. The majority of prepaid calling cards bill inone-minute increments, so if you make a call that last oneminute and three seconds, you will be billed for a two-minutecall.

Fees and taxes: Remember that fees and taxes will use up yourremaining minutes, so use your card wisely.
